Pod Vape vs Disposable: Cost, Waste and Which to Choose

In the pod vape vs disposable debate, the honest answer for UAE buyers is this: at today’s prices, large disposables such as the Myle Meta 9000 are far cheaper per ml than pods, while pods such as JUUL 2 and Myle V5 Meta win on size, flavour variety, waste and a more consistent experience. If cost is all that matters, a big disposable wins; if you want something small that you keep for months and just swap pods, choose a pod system.

Below we compare the two using our actual catalogue prices, then look at convenience, waste, nicotine type and how to decide. Prices are ours at the time of writing and are given in AED.

What is the difference between a pod vape and a disposable?

A pod vape has two parts: a rechargeable device you keep, and small pre-filled pods you replace. JUUL, JUUL 2 and the Myle V5 Meta all work this way. Pods are closed, so you do not refill them; you click in a new one.

A disposable is one sealed unit with the battery, coil and liquid together. When the liquid runs out, the whole thing is finished. Many modern disposables, including the Al Fakher Crown Bar and the Myle Meta 9000, are rechargeable, so the battery is no longer what limits them; the liquid is.

Pod vape vs disposable: cost per ml

Cost per ml of e-liquid is the fairest like-for-like measure where the volume is known. Here are the numbers from our catalogue:

Product Type Our price E-liquid Cost per ml Device needed
JUUL pods (original) Pod AED 90 (4 pods) 2.8 ml About AED 32.10 JUUL device, AED 90
JUUL 2 pods Pod AED 55 (2 pods) 2.4 ml About AED 22.90 JUUL 2 device, AED 90
Myle V5 Meta pod Pod AED 40 About 2 ml About AED 20.00 V5 Meta device, AED 35–40
Myle Meta 9000 Disposable AED 45 18 ml About AED 2.50 None
Al Fakher Crown Bar Mega Max Disposable AED 50 Not confirmed See below None

The gap is large. Per ml, the Meta 9000 costs about one-eighth of a Myle pod and about one-ninth of a JUUL 2 pod. The original JUUL is the most expensive per ml of anything we sell.

Why the Crown Bar is compared on puffs instead

We have not been able to confirm the e-liquid volume of the Crown Bar Mega Max: retailer listings quote different figures, so we will not compute a per-ml cost from a number we cannot stand behind. The only figure we can compare is the manufacturer’s puff rating:

Product Our price Rated puffs AED per 1,000 rated puffs
Crown Bar Mega Max 40k AED 50 40,000 1.25
Crown Bar E-Hose 60k AED 60 60,000 1.00
Myle Meta 9000 AED 45 9,000 5.00
Myle V5 Meta pod AED 40 About 2,000 20.00

Read this table with care. There is no industry standard for counting puffs, and ratings are not comparable across brands. Even within one brand they vary: Myle rates its 2 ml pod at about 2,000 puffs (around 1,000 per ml) and its 18 ml Meta 9000 at 9,000 puffs (around 500 per ml). Puff ratings tell you roughly how models compare within a range, not what you will get in daily use.

A month of vaping: an illustration

To make the per-ml numbers concrete, assume someone gets through 30 ml of liquid a month. That assumption is ours and real use varies widely. At our prices, the liquid alone would cost about AED 690 in JUUL 2 pods, about AED 600 in Myle V5 Meta pods, and about AED 75 in Myle Meta 9000s, with the device cost added on top for the pod systems.

Two caveats matter. First, nicotine strength differs: JUUL 2 is 18 mg/ml, while our Myle pods and the Meta 9000 are 5% (50 mg/ml), so a JUUL 2 user typically needs more liquid to get the same nicotine. Per mg of nicotine, the gap between JUUL 2 and Myle is even wider than per ml. Second, the price of large-volume products may change; see the excise note below.

Will the new UAE excise rule change the maths?

Possibly. The UAE Ministry of Finance introduced a minimum excise price of AED 1 per ml for liquids used in electronic smoking devices, effective 1 September 2026 under Cabinet Decision No. 137 of 2026. The minimum price is the floor used to calculate the 100% excise tax, not a minimum retail price, so it pushes up the tax on cheap liquid.

What we could not confirm from the public announcements is exactly how the rule applies to liquid sold inside pre-filled pods and disposables rather than in bottles. If it is applied per ml of pre-filled liquid, large-capacity disposables would be affected far more than small pods, because they hold so much more liquid. Until that settles across the market, treat the very low per-ml cost of big disposables as something that may rise. Our prices above are the prices at the time of writing.

Convenience: which is easier to live with?

Pod system Large disposable
Size Small, pocketable Larger, especially 18 ml+ models
Setup Charge device, click in pod Open and use
Changing flavour Every pod Only when the device is finished
Running out Need spare pods on hand One device lasts a long time
Consistency Fresh coil with every pod Flavour can fade towards the end
Features JUUL 2 adds app pairing and pod authentication Screens, airflow control on some models

Pod systems suit people who vape through the day in a regular pattern and like to switch flavours. Disposables suit people who want zero fuss, or who vape occasionally and do not want to keep track of a device and spare pods.

Which creates more waste?

A pod system creates less. When a pod is empty, you throw away a small plastic pod; the battery and electronics stay in use for months. When a disposable is empty, the whole unit goes, including a lithium battery and its circuit board. Rechargeable disposables reduce the number of devices compared with older non-rechargeable ones, but each one still ends up as electronic waste. Whatever you use, empty devices should go to an e-waste collection point, not the household bin.

Nicotine type: salts and strengths

  • JUUL and JUUL 2 use nicotine salts. JUUL 2 pods are 18 mg/ml; original JUUL pods with us come in 3%, 5% and 18 mg versions.
  • Myle V5 Meta pods and the Meta 9000 use 5% (50 mg/ml) salt nicotine in the versions we stock.
  • Al Fakher Crown Bar strength and nicotine form vary by line and market. Retailer listings disagree, so read the strength printed on the pack rather than relying on any general figure.

Nicotine salts are generally smoother at higher strengths than freebase nicotine, which is why closed pods tend to use them. Whatever the format, check the strength before buying, especially when switching between brands, because the same “number of puffs” can deliver very different amounts of nicotine.

What about health?

Neither pods nor disposables are safe or healthy; both deliver nicotine, which is addictive. The UK NHS states that nicotine vaping is less harmful than smoking, but not completely harmless, and that the long-term effects are not yet known. It also says children and non-smokers should never vape. That comparison is with smoking, not with not using nicotine at all. These products are for adult smokers and nicotine users only, and not for pregnant women.

Pod vape or disposable: which should you choose?

  • Choose JUUL 2 if you want a well-made pod system at a moderate 18 mg/ml strength, with app pairing and pod authentication. Our JUUL 2 vs JUUL pods comparison explains the two JUUL systems.
  • Choose the Myle V5 Meta if you want the cheapest pod system to start and a stronger 5% pod. See our Myle V5 Meta guide.
  • Choose a Myle Meta 9000 if cost per ml is your priority and you are happy with one flavour for a long time.
  • Choose an Al Fakher Crown Bar if you are a shisha smoker who wants familiar flavours such as Two Apple or Grape Mint. Our Crown Bar buyer’s guide compares the four lines.
  • Use both: plenty of customers keep a pod device for daily use and a disposable as a backup for travel or nights out.

Frequently asked questions

Is a pod vape cheaper than a disposable?

Per ml of liquid, no. At our prices a Myle Meta 9000 disposable costs about AED 2.50 per ml, against about AED 20 for a Myle V5 pod and about AED 23 for JUUL 2 pods. Pods win on size, waste and flavour variety, not on price.

Are disposable vapes banned in the UAE?

We found no general ban on disposable vapes in the UAE as of October 2026. The most recent change we found is tax-related: a minimum excise price of AED 1 per ml for e-liquids from 1 September 2026. See our guide on whether vaping is legal in the UAE for the wider rules.

How many disposables equal one pod?

It depends on the products. By liquid volume, one 18 ml Meta 9000 holds as much as about nine Myle V5 pods or about fifteen JUUL 2 pods. Nicotine strength differs between them, so this is not the same as equal nicotine.

Do pods taste better than disposables?

Not necessarily, but pods are more consistent because every pod has a fresh coil. Large disposables can lose some flavour towards the end of their life, and you are tied to one flavour until the device is finished.

Which is better for quitting smoking, a pod or a disposable?

Neither format is officially recommended over the other. Public health bodies such as the NHS say that switching completely from cigarettes to vaping is less harmful than continuing to smoke; the right device is the one that stops you going back to cigarettes. For quitting support, speak to a doctor or a UAE smoking cessation service.
